Mohegan Sun welcome bonus — the fine print!

This is where things definitely get a little bit tricky because exact details will have to wait until Mohegan Sun reveals its exact offer. But again, most deposit matching offers are pretty similar, so we have a pretty good idea of what it might resemble.

Claiming your Mohegan Sun Sportsbook welcome bonus

Mohegan Sun may require a bonus code, or you may qualify simply by signing up and making a deposit. If it’s a code, you would enter it when registering with Mohegan Sun, otherwise you would just sign up.

How bonus funds work

You would not be receiving matching funds in cash. Instead, you would get bonus funds. How bonus funds work varies from sportsbook to sportsbook, and it’s one of the main things that determines the quality of a welcome bonus.

Most of the time, you will need to play through a certain amount of money in order to release the bonus funds. If the rate is 1x, that means that for every $1 you bet, the sportsbooks will release $1 in bonus funds. This is pretty much the gold standard when it comes to deposit bonuses.

Rates of 2x to 5x are not terrible, but they’re obviously not as good. Some sportsbooks even require as high as a 25x playthrough rate. You also will have a set amount of time to release your bonus money before it expires. The shortest length we’ve seen is seven days, but 14 to 30 days is much more typical. A few books will go longer than that, too.

Determining if Mohegan Sun’s welcome bonus is a good one

To figure out if Mohegan Sun’s actual welcome bonus is a quality one, you’ll want to factor in everything we’ve discussed here — percentage match, max match, playthrough requirement and time before bonus funds expire. Also, you can just come back here when the bonus is announced and we’ll break it down for you.

Can I trust Mohegan Sun Sportsbook?

Yes, Mohegan Sun will be a trustworthy online sportsbook. The Mohegan Tribe runs the Mohegan Sun casino and resort in Uncasville, and in addition the tribe would not have received a sports betting license in the state if it weren’t trustworthy.

Furthermore, in early March 2021, the Mohegan Tribe and Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont announced an agreement that would “modernize gaming options available to state residents.”

Sports betting regulations in Connecticut

While we’re still waiting to find out all the details about sports betting in the Constitution State, there are a couple rules that are near certainties. First, you will need to be at least 21 years old in order to bet at sportsbooks in the state. The sportsbook will confirm your age when you open your account.

You also will need to be in the state to place a wager. For mobile betting, geolocation software will check this requirement. When you sign into the Mohegan Sun app or website, the software will check your whereabouts. If you’re in Connecticut, you can bet. If you’re not, you can’t.

Getting started at Mohegan Sun Sportsbook in Connecticut

To open a new account, you just need to head to the sportsbook’s registration page. To create a sportsbook account, you will need to provide the following details:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Phone
  • Email
  • Birthday
  • Social Security number (last four digits)

In addition, you will create a password and confirm that you are at least 21 years old. If Mohegan Sun requires a bonus code, this is where you would enter that.

How do I download the Mohegan Sun app?

Getting the Mohegan Sun app installed on your Android or Apple device will be quick and easy. Start by heading to the sportsbook’s app download page. Then follow these instructions depending on your device.

Mohegan Sun Android sports betting app

Click the Android download button. Your phone/tablet will then ask if you trust the source of this file because it could hurt your device. The file does not pose a threat, so you are safe to download it. You still need to tap on the downloaded file and then select the “Install” option to finish the set-up process.

Mohegan Sun iOS sports betting app

On the Mohegan Sportsbook website, click on the Apple download button. This launches Apple’s App Store at the Mohegan Sun app installation page. Select “Get” and the app will install on your phone or tablet in short order.

Where do I find Mohegan Sun promotions?

To view all the Mohegan Sun promotions, you just have to click on the promotions tab on either the app or website. From that page, you can select promos individually and read the terms and conditions to understand precisely what each bonus has to offer.

What if I don’t read the terms and conditions?

You might not understand what it takes to qualify for a promotion or you might not understand what kind of a bonus you are playing for.

For example, many times you’ll see what a sportsbook calls a “bonus bet,” but usually the offers are much more complex than simply getting your money back if your bet loses. Even if you do qualify, you probably will receive only a bonus bet in return as opposed to your money back.

So, even though it’s not fun or exciting, we strongly advocate always giving each promo a full read-through. And once you start to understand how each sportsbook functions, you will find what you’re looking for in the fine print.

Are daily odds boosts worthwhile?

They can be, but it’s best to not get sucked in when you see the odds boost. Instead take time to consider if you actually like the available bet. If you do, then taking advantage of increased odds is a great way to help grow your bankroll. But don’t simply place a bet because the odds are higher than they were before, because if the bet loses, you end up with zero regardless.

Why should I choose the Mohegan Sun Sportsbook app?

When deciding which online sportsbook to sign up with, there are a number of factors you should consider.

  • Betting markets: While the number of bets a sportsbook has to offer is significant, the most important question is “Can I bet on the sport/league I want to?” For instance, if you’re a big Connecticut Sun fan and the sportsbook you want to join doesn’t have WNBA bets, it’s probably not the right one for you.
  • Betting options: You also need to make sure the book you join allows you to place the types of bets you want. Any legitimate sportsbook will let you make moneyline, total and spread bets, but if you really enjoy same-game parlays, you’ll need to make sure the sportsbook you join has that option. You also should check the available prop bets if that is important to you.
  • Banking choices: It also is crucial to make sure the sportsbook you join has deposit and withdrawal options that work for you. It’s easy to make a deposit without checking to see if that deposit option works for cashing out, too. If it doesn’t, you could end up wanting to pull money out of your account and not being able to.

What won’t I like about the Mohegan Sun Sportsbook app?

These are three potential trouble spots that pop up with a lot of sportsbooks.

  • Not enough promos: Promotions are one of the most important characteristics of any sportsbook. Having a lot of promos is good, but only if they are quality offers. The last thing you want is to have to wade through numerous bonuses just to find the one that is worthwhile.
  • No rewards club: It also is surprising how many books do not have loyalty clubs. For that reason, you shouldn’t consider it a deal-breaker if Mohegan Sun doesn’t end up having one. And, for as much as we like rewards clubs, the fact is, quality odds and promotions likely trump rewards clubs.
  • Poor apps: With more and more bets happening on mobile devices, a poor sports betting app can completely sink a sportsbook. Some of the things to look out for are long lag times, freezing and the app shutting down unexpectedly. These can be especially brutal if you plan on live betting.

What kind of bets can I make at Mohegan Sun?

The Mohegan Sun Sportsbook will have moneylines, spreads, totals, plenty of prop bets and futures, and parlays and round robins is another option. Live betting will also be an option. Let’s take a look at all those choices.

MoneylineSpreadTotal Points
New England Patriots+125+2.5 (-107)Over 51.5 (-112)
New York Giants-152-2.5 (-112)Under 51.5 (-109)

Understanding the moneyline

For a moneyline bet, your goal is to pick which team will win. The odds determine how much money you’ll win. In our example, the Giants are the favorites. You can tell this because their odds are negative. Odds of -152 mean that a $152 bet would return a profit of $100 if it’s correct. The Patriots are underdogs, so you would win more with a successful bet on them. Odds of +125 mean that a successful $100 bet would lead to a $125 profit.

Understanding point spread betting

To win a bet against the spread, your bet needs to succeed while taking the margin of victory into account. For a spread of 2.5 as in our example, the Giants must win by more than that — so three or more — while the Patriots are successful if they win by any score or lose by two or fewer. If New York were to win 28-27, then spread bets on New England would win. The odds work just as we explained in the moneyline section.

Understanding totals

This is what you would consider a team-neutral wagering option. That’s because it does not matter who wins and loses with totals. The total score by both teams is all that’s important. Our example of the Giants winning 28-27 means that you would win if you placed an over bet, since that’s 55 total points, and the line was at 51.5

Understanding prop betting

Props are another bet that does not take a game’s final score into account. Also known as novelty bets, these are wagers on statistical accomplishments or whether something specific will happen in a game. For instance, during the Super Bowl, you could place a prop on whether the coin toss will be heads or tails or who will be the MVP. You can find all of a sportsbook’s props for a particular game by clicking on the game listing.

Understanding futures betting

Futures are bets you make before or during the season, for instance a bet on who you think will end up winning the overall title. While that is the biggest, most well-known futures bet, other options are betting on teams to win conference and division titles or on players to win season-long awards.

Understanding parlays and round robins

Parlays are a high-risk, high-reward option. Take this example: You bet on five spread bets one NFL Sunday, all with -110 odds. You group them together, which is a parlay, and wager $10. If you’re right with all your bets, you’ll win just over $240. The downside is that if even one of your five bets is wrong, you win nothing.

While parlays can be super hard to win, round robins present a slightly easier option. Round robins basically create multiple, smaller parlays with your selections. Sticking with our five-leg parlay example, a round robin could create 10 separate three-leg parlays with your bets. This way you could still win some money even if you didn’t get all of your picks right. Your potential winnings go down with round robins vs. parlays, but your odds of winning go up.

Understanding live betting

For all intents and purposes, live betting works just like pregame betting, with the difference being that the game you are betting on is taking place, and odds are updating and shifting.

With pregame betting, it usually takes a major trade or injury to see a spread shift by more than a couple points, but with live betting, one play can lead to an adjustment. Imagine what would happen if a quarterback throws a pick-six in the red zone, for instance. Suddenly instead of that team scoring three or seven points, you end up with seven points going the other way, and thus you see a major change in the spread.

Can I bet on the Connecticut Sun at the Mohegan Sun Sportsbook?

Unfortunately, it is unlikely that you will be able to bet on Connecticut Sun games at the Mohegan Sun’s online sportsbook. That’s because the Mohegan Tribe that owns and operates the Mohegan Sun Sportsbook also owns the Connecticut Sun WNBA team.

The same situation exists in the NBA with the Houston Rockets. Tilman Fertitta, the owner of Golden Nugget Online Gaming, also owns the Rockets. Due to the potential conflict of interest, Golden Nugget cannot take any bets on the Rockets.

There is no reason to believe the situation with the Mohegan Sun and Connecticut Sun will be any different. Whether you will be able to place other WNBA bets is unclear. Golden Nugget will take non-Rockets NBA wagers, though, so it definitely is a possibility.

How do I get money on (and off!) Mohegan Sun Sportsbook quickly?

We’re still awaiting word on what your deposit and withdrawal options will be at Mohegan Sun. Online sportsbooks often allow you to make deposits using credit cards, online bank transfers, e-checks, PayPal and other similar services. Many of those same options likely will exist for cashing out your money, as well.

Assuming Mohegan Sun opens a retail sportsbook at its casino, you almost certainly will be able to make financial transactions from that location, as well.

How do I get help at Mohegan Sun Sportsbook?

Full details for how to contact customer support at Mohegan Sun Sportsbook are not yet available. You can, however, email [email protected] for some assistance.

Additionally, you can click on your account, then settings, and you should see an option for “FAQ” where you’ll be able to browse various help topics. We also expect as things continue to ramp up that Mohegan Sun will add options for calling and live chatting with help desk agents.

How do I exclude myself from Mohegan Sun?

A major benefit of online sportsbooks is the ability to set various limits on your sportsbook account.

At Mohegan Sun, you can impose limits on how much money you can deposit and bet during given periods of time. You also can regulate how much time you can be logged into the Mohegan Sun app or website.

Additionally, the options also exist for locking your account for periods of times: a few days to a few weeks or for a few years. Once you have taken the steps to close your account, there is no turning back. However, you still will be able to pull your money out after doing so.

Can I bet with Mohegan Sun Sportsbook in person?

There is a very good chance that you will be able to bet in person with Mohegan Sun Sportsbook at the Mohegan Sun casino and resort in Uncasville. We’ll know more once the casino officially announces its plans.

  • Address: 1 Mohegan Sun Blvd., Uncasville, CT
  • Phone: 888-226-7711
  • Website:mohegansun.com
  • Opening: Possible 2021 or 2022 launch

How does Mohegan Sun compare to other Connecticut sportsbooks?

It is a little too early in the process to really compare Mohegan Sun to other online sportsbooks in Connecticut. The biggest things we’ll be looking at as things continue to take shape in the Constitution State will be the types of odds and promotions that each sportsbook has to offer. We also will continue using and testing features on the apps and websites to make sure each sportsbook functions as it should.

FAQ

As a licensed sportsbook, Mohegan Sun will keep both your money and information a whole lot more secure than at an offshore site. When you send money to an offshore site, you have no legal recourse to get it back if something goes wrong. Furthermore, if you do encounter problems, there is no one to turn to for help.

No. While Mohegan Sun does have an app, it also has a website that you can use to place your bets. There also is a decent chance that it will have a retail sportsbook at its casino location. If that does come to pass, you obviously will be able to make bets, deposits and withdrawals from there, too.

No, you can sign up remotely in Connecticut. The entire sign-up process should take just a few minutes.

No. At this time, Mohegan Sun Sportsbook is only licensed and operating in Connecticut. Every time that you log into the website or app, Mohegan Sun will use geolocation software to track your location. If you’re outside of Connecticut, you will not be able to bet.

Nothing is official, but the fact that the Connecticut Sun and Mohegan Sun are both owned by the Mohegan Tribe makes it extremely unlikely that you will be able to get on Connecticut’s WNBA team at the Mohegan Sun Sportsbook.
