NBA Odds

1

Connecticut loves basketball, whether it’s watching the Connecticut Sun of the WNBA or any of the surrounding NBA franchises — the Boston Celtics, the New York Knicks, and the Brooklyn Nets.

NBA betting odds can be extremely simple, if that’s what you prefer. Making online bets on the moneyline, or on an NBA team to beat the spread, only takes a couple of clicks. But modern NBA odds also let you get way more specific with multitudes of player prop bets on rebounds, blocks, points, or steals. Check the latest NBA odds from Connecticut online sportsbooks below, along with more about how to bet on the NBA.

Best NBA sportsbooks in Connecticut

Three sportsbooks launched in Connecticut soon after online sports betting officially became legal. Each have plenty of NBA betting odds, along with bonuses for new and existing customers. They also all come with their own strengths and weaknesses.

DraftKings Connecticut

To launch in Connecticut, DraftKings partnered with Foxwoods Resort, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation’s casino in the southeastern part of the state. The DraftKings Connecticut sports app offers a range of bets for every NBA game, which is pretty standard across each of the three sportsbooks.
DraftKings Foxwoods

  • Moneylines, point spreads, and totals but also LOTS of props.
  • Futures bets on just about every major outcome and award in the NBA, including bets like which state the champ will come from: New York, California, Florida, Texas, or the field.
  • Definitely the most comprehensive list of futures bets available in Connecticut.
  • DraftKings’ NBA section also has news articles, analysis, and info on betting trends.
  • Platform basically doubles as an online basketball magazine or a fan zone.

FanDuel Connecticut

  • FanDuel’s NBA platform is not as comprehensive as DraftKings, but it’s arguably cleaner and easier to navigate. The white background and use of dropdown menus is simple and beginner-friendly.
  • The FanDuel Connecticut betting app also uses each team’s real logo next to relevant futures bets, which is a nice touch that adds to the overall aesthetics.
  • The clean design also means that betting on live NBA games is very easy. You can see all the NBA games happening in real-time by clicking on a tab in the live section of the sportsbook.
  • There are also live updates and stats for each game available right on the platform, which is useful for making split-second decisions.

SugarHouse Connecticut

Rush Street Interactive has partnered with the Connecticut Lottery, with a long-term plan to open 15 physical sportsbooks across the state. It has also launched its online platform in the form of the SugarHouse Sportsbook Connecticut.

In software terms, SugarHouse is arguably a little behind the other online options in CT. It feels a little less modern but does have lots of NBA features:

  • For one, NBA betting lines tend to appear earlier at SugarHouse than either DraftKings or FanDuel.
  • There is also a full preview available for every NBA game, which you can pop out from the main sportsbook. It includes the recent records of both teams, injury news, stats, and more.
  • SugarHouse also has a house specials section, where you can regularly find bonuses and promos for NBA games.

NBA odds boosts and promos

In an increasingly crowded market, online sportsbooks use bonuses and promotions to attract new players and encourage people to bet. This is great from a bettor’s point of view — it translates to better odds, more varied betting options, and fun, unexpected ways to bet and save money.

All the online sportsbooks in Connecticut have promos specifically for the NBA. Odds boosts are one of the most popular. Odds boosts are daily or weekly promos where certain bets receive enhanced odds. Often these bets will be parlays, but they can also be individual wagers. The sportsbook will also show you the previous odds, so you can see how much you might gain.

FanDuel has an odds boost section that changes every few days where you can find special offers on popular upcoming sports, with the NBA making regular appearances. Beyond odds boosts, the promos can become a little more complicated. Take this example from DraftKings:

DraftKings nba insurance promos

With this promo, you’ll get your money back on a single-game NBA parlay of four legs or more if just one leg lets you down, up to $25. It gives you a little more breathing room and encourages bettors to try parlays.

It’s important to always check the terms and conditions with these types of offers, and follow the instructions carefully to make sure you qualify. For example, live bets aren’t part of the above promo, and you need to pick between games from a specific range of dates.

Sometimes the sportsbook lets you choose which bet you want to boost yourself. SugarHouse has this offer, for example:

SugarHouse NBA odds boost

All you need to do is log in to your account on Wednesday, and you’ll find a 20% profit boost token that you can use on a single live NBA bet. Profit boosts work by preselecting a bet, and if it ends up winning, your profits (but not stake) will rise.

It’s worth noting that all of the above examples are just that — examples. Sportsbooks change their promos and offers all the time, and tend to come up with some solid ones around playoff time.

How to bet on the NBA now in CT

With multiple sportsbooks to choose from and a lengthy NBA schedule, betting on basketball in Connecticut is fairly easy. With a few years of legal sports betting under their belts, US sportsbooks have fine-tuned the process so that creating an account and placing bets is smooth and beginner-friendly.

To bet using a Connecticut sportsbook, you must be physically located in the state. If you’re using an app, you’ll need to allow geolocation software to confirm your location in order to place a bet. You can, however, set up your account from anywhere.

You can register a new account at the sportsbook’s website or via the app. DraftKings, FanDuel, and SugarHouse all have apps available for iOS and Android.

Creating your account involves giving the sportsbook some personal info and verifying your identity. The verification process is part of the Connecticut Gaming Division’s legal requirements, in contrast to unregulated offshore sites that allow anyone to create an account. It’s a sign of the professionalism and safety of using legal CT sites. Here are the details that you may need to provide:

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • Email address
  • Username
  • Password
  • Social Security number (last four digits)

You’ll also have to check some boxes to accept your sportsbook’s terms and conditions and confirm that your details are accurate. No matter which book you choose, the sign-up process should be relatively fast and painless.

This process is also often where you can claim a welcome bonus from the sportsbook, potentially requiring you to enter a bonus code.

Once you’re all signed up and have your bonus locked and loaded, you’re ready to bet. The sportsbooks in Connecticut all have dedicated NBA sections to peruse. Clicking on a bet will add it to your bet slip. Then you can type in how much you want to bet, confirm the details and place your wager.

How to read NBA odds

NBA betting odds work in much the same way as with any other sport. Here’s a quick example of a standard betting line using American odds:

NBA betting lines

Betting on the moneyline, the favorite is the team with the negative odds, in this case, the Indiana Pacers. Here’s how you figure out your payout with NBA moneyline odds:

  • The Pacers are at -172, which means a bet of $172 would win $100, or $17.20 would win $10, etc.
  • The Toronto Raptors are at +144, which means a bet of $100 would win $144, or $10 would win $14.40, etc.

With point spreads and totals, the sportsbook tries to set a balanced line so that both sides of the bet receive equal action. In this case, the spread is four points, meaning that for an NBA spread bet on the Pacers to win, they need to beat the Raptors by more than that.

The odds normally start at around -110 on both sides, so betting $110 wins $100. However, these odds are subject to change depending on how much action each side of the bet attracts.

Odds also change when you place parlays. The more legs you add to a parlay, the longer your odds become, with the odds of each individual bet multiplied together. For example, if you place a parlay of two bets at +120 and +230, your odds will be +626. Or, to express it in decimal terms, 2.2 * 3.3 = 7.26.

Parlays are potentially much more profitable than straight bets, especially as the number of legs increases. If one leg lets you down, however, you lose the whole bet.

NBA futures and props

Digging deeper into NBA wagers, a futures bet is a wager on longer-term outcomes that require a number of things to happen before the bet wins. The most common futures are bets on the next NBA champion, like this line from DraftKings:

Or the winners of each division:

And even bets like which division will win the NBA title:

Or picking the exact finalists:

There are also player futures, like picking the MVP of the playoffs or regular season:

Or futures bets on player stats, like the player with the highest points average:

Futures bets have a lot of positives. For one, as you can see from the examples above, the odds are generally pretty good no matter whom you decide to bet on. In the first example, you could bet on the Golden State Warriors or the Los Angeles Lakers — second and third favorites overall — at +700 to win the championship.

Placing a futures bet early in the season means you’re likely to be more interested and engaged throughout the season. It’s like a little extra spice and, unless your team or player totally bombs right from the start, it stays spicy all season long.

And as another wagering option, props are bets on incidents within games. They could be very significant to the overall result, like a player scoring 40-plus points. Or they could be insignificant, like whether a team will finish with an odd or even point total.

While the latter bet is essentially a coin flip, props can also be very analytical and technical, and very profitable if you put in the research. Props let you get granular in your bets, taking advantage of almost anything you think you can predict about a player or a team’s performance. Here are just some of the same-game parlay prop options at FanDuel:

There are defensive player prop markets, like betting on turnovers, blocks, and steals. And offensive props, like rebounds, assists, threes, and total points.

Props also allow you to break up your bets into individual halves of the game, or quarters like this example from DraftKings:

NBA live odds

Live betting has gotten extremely advanced in recent years, with not only live moneylines, spreads, and totals, but also a variety of props. Sportsbooks’ live platforms have become very detailed, too, including second-by-second updates live from the games, stats and in some sports even live streamed footage — although sadly not for the NBA.

You can bet on live NBA games at Connecticut sportsbooks from anywhere in the state. All the sportsbooks have apps with live betting platforms built in. You could be sitting at home watching the game or in the bar with your friends, for instance.

With live betting, the basketball odds are constantly changing to reflect what’s happening in the game. It’s a much more dynamic experience, and it’s important to know the best time to pull the trigger on a bet and when you should wait.

WNBA betting

Connecticut might not currently be home to an NBA team, but the Connecticut Sun has one of the best teams in the WNBA. Additionally, the range of WNBA betting options has never been stronger. While not quite at the level of the NBA in terms of depth, you can still find variations on all the same bets in the WNBA, including an impressive selection of player props.

In fact, since the league is a little bit behind the NBA in terms of media coverage, in-depth statistical analysis, and public consciousness, there is arguably even greater value available with WNBA betting.
