Sports betting may be on the horizon for Connecticut, but a BetMGM Sportsbook Connecticut is much less certain. Even though there is an MGM Springfield in nearby Massachusetts and there once was an MGM Tower at Foxwoods, the company has limited options when it comes to Connecticut sports betting partners.
If BetMGM does end up finding a path into the state, here is a look at what that partnership could look like and what the app could offer if it arrives.
Will BetMGM Sportsbook be in Connecticut?
With Foxwoods working with DraftKings and Mohegan partnered with Kambi, the only proposed online sportsbook license BetMGM could potentially take advantage of is the one allocated for the Connecticut Lottery.
The CT Lottery received more than a dozen partnership proposals from operators. The organization is currently sifting through those and plan to have a final decision by May 17.
BetMGM is almost certainly among those applications, the question is if the proposal the company offered is enticing enough for the lottery to get involved.
What will the BetMGM Sportsbook app offer?
Currently, BetMGM Sportsbook is licensed and active in several states, with even more on the way.
First, BetMGM has both a desktop site and app that players can use to access the online sportsbook to place bets and manage their accounts. The app is free for iOS and Android, and we’re pleased to say it works equally well on either.
While betting on sports can be intimidating to newcomers, BetMGM simplifies the entire process and makes new users feel right at home. Finding sports and games you want to wager on is a breeze, and when it comes to making wagers, that is straightforward as well. You can see every detail of a bet you are placing through the entire process.
BetMGM pros and cons
Another major positive about BetMGM is that when you join, you instantly become a part of the M life Rewards program, which is tied to all MGM Resorts properties around the world. Now each wager you place will earn you points. The more points you earn, the more goodies and comps you’ll be entitled to.
The BetMGM app also has an easy parlay builder. The name says it all because it makes creating parlays super easy. Even if you’ve never made a parlay bet in your life, you shouldn’t struggle at all when using it.
We have to admit, though, that in other states where we’ve used BetMGM, the app can be a bit sluggish. It’s not incredibly slow, but it definitely is noticeable. When clicking on different pages, for instance, you might have to wait a few seconds for them to load, which might not sound like a lot, but when you’ve gotten used to instant results, it can feel like much more than that.
All in all, BetMGM’s app and website are among the best in the online sports betting industry, and we have our fingers crossed that it will be among the sportsbooks available if and when sports betting is legalized in Connecticut.
Bets available at BetMGM Sportsbook
BetMGM also offers a huge selection of wagers, and, as we’ve already detailed, the bet slip makes it so bettors of all levels can feel confident in knowing all the details of their bets before placing them.
Here’s a quick summary of the most common types of sports bets to assist you, as well.
- Moneyline wagers are the simplest bets you can make because the moneyline merely is showing you what your payout will be if the team you bet on wins.
- Point spread wagers are slightly more complicated because now you must correctly identify what the victory margin will be in games. BetMGM provides you with a point spread, and then you can wager on the favorite (must win by a set number) or underdog (must avoid losing by a set number).
- Totals are only concerned with how many points both teams combine to score in a game. Again, BetMGM provides a number, and you bet on there either the over (more points scored) or the under (fewer points scored).
- Parlays are when you combine two or more bets. Simply select various wagers, and if each of your picks is correct, your parlay wins. If just one is wrong, your parlay loses. BetMGM also offers same-game parlays, which let you select multiple bets for one game.
Sports and teams to bet on at BetMGM
BetMGM has odds and lines for the NHL, NFL, MLB, NBA, NASCAR, PGA Tour, UFC, MLS, WNBA, and men’s and women’s tennis. Locally, the one team users will be able to wager on if BetMGM comes to CT is the Connecticut Sun of the WNBA. There are plenty of professional teams close by, though, if you’re looking for a nearby team to get behind.
In addition to all that, BetMGM also has betting options for top soccer outside the US, including the Champions League, Bundesliga, La Liga, English Premier League, and the World Cup.
BetMGM promotions for 2021
BetMGM starts new customers off with a risk-free first bet up to $600 as a welcome bonus. The way most risk-free bet bonuses work is simple:
- Place your first bet. If it wins, you get your money like normal.
- If it loses, you get a free bet credit equal to the dollar amount of that wager, up to a certain amount, such as $600 at BetMGM.
BetMGM also offers more promotions after that welcome bonus: parlay insurance for various sports, where if you only miss one leg of parlays with four or more selections, you receive your money back up to $25. When it comes to parlays, BetMGM also boosts your winnings by as much as 40% thanks to its Parlay Plus promotion.
You also will find promos that give you free bets when you wager a certain amount during the previous week. On top of all that, BetMGM is one of the only sportsbooks we’ve used that randomly gives away free $5 and $10 bets; users just need to pay attention because the offers usually last for only 24 hours.
The one thing we do stress, though, is that in order to be eligible for most BetMGM promotions, you must opt in to them. So be sure that you don’t merely see that BetMGM has a promo and assume you’re eligible for it.
MGM Resorts International and GVC Holdings partnered to create Roar Digital in 2018. BetMGM Sportsbook is an offshoot of that agreement. MGM first started offering online casino and poker games in 2017. In 2018, it debuted online sports betting.
Since then, BetMGM has launched its app in many states.
Whether Connecticut will be the next state on the list remains to be seen, but it’s clear BetMGM is going to be a major player in the US sports betting arena for years to come.
